Thailand Tourist Fee 2027 for Indians: Entry Fee & Departure Tax

The thailand tourist fee 2027 is not yet in force: Thailand has proposed a ฿450 entry fee for air arrivals and a separate ฿1,000 departure tax, but neither charge applies to trips this winter. If you are travelling to Thailand in late 2026 or early 2027, you pay nothing new — this guide separates what is confirmed from what is still only a proposal.

What Is Confirmed Right Now for Indian Travellers

Indian passport holders enjoy visa-free entry to Thailand for stays of up to 30 days, a rule in force since 15 September 2026. Every visitor must still submit the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) within 72 hours before arrival. The airport passenger service charge at major airports — currently ฿1,120 — is already built into your ticket and is not new. In short, for a Diwali, Christmas or winter 2026–27 trip, the entry rules and charges are exactly as they have been for weeks.

The Proposed ฿450 Tourist Entry Fee

Thailand's tourism ministry subcommittee reviewed draft collection rules for a ฿450 entry fee on 19 October 2026 and passed them to the Tourism Promotion Fund board. This is a procedural step, not approval: the fee still needs cabinet approval and legal procedures, and reports suggest collection could begin in the first quarter of 2027, starting with air arrivals and extending to land and sea arrivals about a year later. The stated aim is funding tourist insurance and tourism facilities. Until cabinet approval and a Gazette notification, no traveller should pay this fee to anyone.

The Proposed ฿1,000 Departure Tax

Separately, the Revenue Department has drafted a ฿1,000 departure tax on all international air passengers, with a legal ceiling of ฿5,000. Under the draft, airlines would collect it, it would apply 180 days after publication in the Royal Gazette, and tickets bought before that date would be exempt even if you fly later. Public consultation closes on 29 October 2026, so the final shape may still change.

What the Two Proposals Would Cost Together

If both proposals go through in their current form, a foreign air traveller's combined airport, entry and exit charges would reach about ฿2,570 per trip, of which about ฿1,450 is new. For a family of four, that is roughly ฿5,800 of new charges — worth factoring into a mid-2027 or later holiday budget, but irrelevant to winter 2026–27 trips.

Thailand Entry Checklist for Indians (Winter 2026–27)

  • Visa: none needed in advance — visa-free stay up to 30 days.
  • TDAC: submit the free digital arrival card within 72 hours before arrival.
  • Passport: valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival, with a return or onward ticket.
  • Fees: no entry fee or departure tax applies yet; the ฿1,120 airport charge is already in your ticket.
  • Bookings: buying tickets early may also shield you from the departure tax if it is introduced later, since pre-purchased tickets would be exempt under the draft.

Thailand's tourism authority continues to promote new India connections — Air India Express began Kochi–Bangkok direct flights four times a week from 25 October 2026, and a new Visakhapatnam–Bangkok service was welcomed this week. Pro Tips for Indians Heading to Thailand

Do not pay any "tourist fee" to agents or websites until an official Gazette notification exists — both charges are proposals only. Complete the free TDAC yourself on the official portal within the 72-hour window; paid lookalike sites are a common trap. If you are booking a mid-2027 trip, ask your agent to note the fee proposals in the quote so a later charge does not surprise you.

Is there a Thailand tourist fee for Indians in 2026?

No. As of late October 2026, neither the proposed ฿450 entry fee nor the ฿1,000 departure tax is in force. The only airport charge, ฿1,120, is already included in your ticket.

When could the Thailand entry fee start?

Reports suggest the first quarter of 2027 at the earliest, and only after cabinet approval and legal procedures. Air arrivals would be charged first; land and sea arrivals would follow about a year later.

Do Indians need a visa for Thailand now?

No advance visa is needed. Indians enjoy visa-free entry for up to 30 days since 15 September 2026, with the free TDAC submitted within 72 hours before arrival.

Will tickets bought now be exempt from the departure tax?

Under the current draft, yes — tickets purchased before the tax law is published in the Gazette would be exempt even if you fly later. This is still a draft, so the final rules may differ.
