Who is eligible for the Air India student fare?
For domestic travel you must be at least 12 years old on the travel date and enrolled in a full-time course lasting at least one academic year at a recognised school, college or university. Carry a valid student ID card, acceptance letter or student visa for verification at check-in — Air India warns that failure to produce documents triggers a misuse recovery charge plus taxes. Do not book a student fare you cannot document.
Air India Express Student Discount: Even More Generous
The sister airline's parallel offer runs on the same deadline: Air India Express gives students a flat 10% off domestic Value fares across all booking channels until 20 October 2026, plus a total 25 kg baggage allowance (15 kg standard + 10 kg extra), date changes for just ₹99, and an extra 5% off with the code VIBES on direct bookings. If you are flying home with a full suitcase of winter clothes, the air india express student discount is arguably the better deal.
Year-Round Student Benefits (Beyond 20 October)
The limited-period flat 10% ends on 20 October, but Air India's standing student programme continues with: up to 10% off selected domestic and international fares, 10 kg additional baggage allowance, and one complimentary date change on eligible bookings. Two more stackable perks on direct bookings: logged-in customers get a 50% reduction in convenience fees, and UPI payments on eligible domestic bookings fetch up to ₹1,000 off per passenger with the code UPIPROMO. A student booking via UPI with the flat 10% plus UPIPROMO can realistically save 15–18% versus the standard fare — approximate, route-dependent.
Pro tips for students booking now
- Book before 20 October — the travel date can be later, but the booking must be made inside the window.
- Compare Air India vs Air India Express on your route: the Express 25 kg allowance beats the mainline offer for heavy packers.
- Log in and pay via UPI to stack the 50% convenience-fee cut and UPIPROMO on top of the student fare.
- Keep your student ID handy at check-in — the misuse charge wipes out every rupee you saved.
